Fun with Flags

Know Your Flags

The Flags are there so that race control can tell you what is happening on the track.  Be mindful of them and know what they mean.  All tracks (like JenningsGP) have slight variations along with some special flags.  Here are the basics.  Know these ahead of time and you will not be overloaded with information during the rider’s meeting.

  • GREEN:
    • The track is hot and you can join anytime (or during your assigned group)
  • RED:
    • The track is closed or closing.
    • This is most likely due to a crash or some other critical issue that needs to be addressed.
    • Raise your arm in the air when you see this flag.
    • Don’t chop the throttle or stand on the brakes.
    • DO NOT STOP ON THE TRACK.
    • Continue at a safe, but swift speed and pit in.
    • While it is not a race to the pits, the faster you get off the track the faster officials can address the situation.  This includes deploying Medical if a rider is down and injured.  Medical cannot deploy on a hot track.
  • YELLOW - STEADY or STATIONARY
    • This means that you need to be alert for a potential distraction. This could be a slower rider with a mechanical issue, a bike well off the track, a turtle or gator on the track, or any other distraction that does not require the track to be shut down.
    • DO NOT grab a big hand full of brake. You will get run over.
    • Maintain your pace.
    • DO NOT PASS in the area of the Yellow Flag. You will get Black Flagged
  • YELLOW - WAVING:
    • Indicates that you need to slow your pace and be extra vigilant for a possible trouble spot.
    • The track will remain open but there is some kind of issue in that area that could cause a problem.
    • The "Problem" could be solid, liquid, or animal.  Scan for trouble.
    • DO NOT PASS in the area of the Yellow Flag. You will get Black Flagged.
  • BLACK:
    • This flag will be pointed directly at you and means that there is either something wrong with your bike or your actions.
    • Raise your arm to let the corner worker know you saw the flag.
    • Move off the racing line in case you are leaking fluids.
    • Pit In and report to the race control both located at Start/Finish.
  • CHECKERED
    • End of the session
    • Continue your lap and Pit In at the first possible opportunity.
    • The Checkered will be displayed at Start/Finish and also in Turn 7.
    • If you first see it in Turn 7…Pit In. Do not pass go, do not collect $200
    • Do not run an extra Victory Lap.  You will be mocked
