Entering the Pits

Entering and Exiting the pits is very important.  To maintain the safety of yourself and others, you SHALL do this the right way every single time.  No exceptions!  Study these procedures.  Know them inside out. Messing them up and causing a wreck would have a high probably of damage to machine and man. Race Control will Black Flag you and give warnings if these steps are not followed.  Repeated violations can result in your removal and the end of your day.

Pit In

Rule #1:  “Once you commit to pit in, you pit in.”  Period!

Never, never, never change your mind and abort the pit in process.  Pit entrance begins in the middle of Turn 13.  You can’t see it until you are mid turn, so it is important to start the Pit In procedure well in advance for the turn.  Like Turn 1 (Pit Out), Turn 13 is pretty darn fast.  Riders are coming thru Turn 13 at over 60 MPH and begin to get hard on the throttle as they drive to Turn 14.  By the time the Pit In Blend Line ends and Pit Road begins, riders on the track could be approaching 100 MPH in Turn 14.

Raise your Hand.  Stay to the right.

Raise your Hand.  Stay to the right.

You are Pitting.  Stay to the right of the Blend Line.  NEVER proceed to Turn 14.

You are Pitting.  Stay to the right of the Blend Line.  NEVER proceed to Turn 14.

Steps

  1. As you exit Turn 11 and approach Turn 12, begin to drift over to the right.  DO NOT chop the throttle or get hard on your brakes.  Move over and use Maintenance Throttle.
  2. Raise Your Hand
  3. Congratualtions! You have just officially started the Pit In Procedure. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR MIND.  Everyone behind you is expecting you to pit now.
  4. As you exit Turn 12, stay to the right side of the track and CONTINUE TO SIGNAL.  Raise your hand. Stick out a foot.  Raise your hand AND stick out a foot.  Announce your intentions to Pit to the riders behind you.
  5. Stay tightly to the right.  Don’t zig zag.  Don’t stop.  Don’t look around. Don’t Drift into the race line.  Focus!
  6. As you lean into Turn 13, STAY TO THE RIGHT near the track edge.  Remember, riders are coming thru there quickly.  Drifting wide makes you a target.  Don’t be a target.
  7. Mid-way thru Turn 13, you will see the beginning of the Blend Line. Keep you and your bike between the edge of the track and the dotted Blend Line. i.e. STAY TO THE RIGHT!
  8. Enter Pit Lane and maintain a steady speed.
  9. You now have one of two choices to make:
    • Turn right and return to your pit box where to can high five your friends and make a futile effort to wipe the smile off your face.
    • Go straight and STOP at the Starter’s Stand.  You must STOP!  If you wish to re-enter the track, Race Control will wave you along when it is safe to go.
  10. Congrats!  You have safely made it onto and off of the track without injuring yourself or someone else.
